How much does a private tutor cost?

We charge $70 per hour.

What is Learning Rainbow’s specialty?

We love teaching beginning reading and math. We specialize in attention or focus issues. We have developed fun games and techniques to help your child to stay on task and to succeed.

Another one of our specialties is helping older students re-invigorate their curiosities and love of learning and to help them acquire the tools they need to perform at or above grade level.

Can you help at school?

Yes! For our ongoing students, we like to attend their parent-teacher conferences and work closely with their teacher on classroom and tutoring plans.  We charge the same rate as we do for tutoring ($70 per hour).

My child sometimes has behavior or relationship issues with the other students. Can you help with that?

Yes! We believe that through practicing behaviors, we can equip your child with tools to adapt and overcome shyness, bullying or other behaviors with/towards other children.

Remember that at all ages, children  (and adults!) are learning to express themselves and relate with others. This is as much of a learning experience as reading or math. Coaching and teaching are always valuable!

I am often frustrated when I try to work with my child ON homework, social skills and other day to day activities. Can you help?

Your child always wants to impress you. They seek your approval. When they feel that they are falling short of your expectations they become shy, defensive and eventually withdrawn.  Often, just having an outside, objective professional makes them “sit up straight” and respect the teacher and the tutor.

We can work together to develop a mutual admiration team where everyone’s successes (including parents) are admired and shortcomings are bolstered by positive learning. Ultimately, this results in a feeling of love and safety for everyone and is especially valuable as your children enter their teenage years.

You seem to be focused on younger children. Do you work with older students and adults as well?

Yes!  One of our specialties is to teach older students HOW to study and learn. We have seen over and over that people have been through the education system and have not really had the opportunity to learn HOW to learn.

We all learn differently. Some of us learn by reading, some by doing and some of us are more visual, physical and/or tactile, auditory, social, teaching type of learner and many more ways of learning and the combinations thereof.  The job of a good tutor is to observe what works for the student in front of you and adjust their learning program accordingly, constantly.

We can help you discover your learning techniques so that you can optimize your study time to match your learning techniques.

I really need a crash “test prep” course. Can you help?

Yes! We have specific techniques and tips that will help you maximize your test scores.

Of course you have to know the material and be able to do the work; but so often capable people just need a little practice and coaching to optimize their scores.
